The President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and former Spanish Vice-President Nadia Calviño predicted on Monday at the Forum Europa in Brussels that activity and lending to the defence and security industry will increase in the second half of the year with the EIB's regulatory changes to facilitate lending to this sector.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, stated this Tuesday at Forum Europa in Brussels that "we have a lot of instability on the Mediterranean coast and we have to preserve the countries that are still stable".

During a meeting organised by the New Economy Forum in the EU capital, Josep Borrell considered that European citizens must understand that "the American umbrella that protected us during the Cold War and afterwards may not be open all the time".
